Walkman
A brand of portable audio players and recorders from Sony. In 1979, Sony introduced the first Walkman, an audio cassette device that created a revolution. The tape-based Walkman was the progenitor of the portable CD player and the MP3 player. See audio cassette and Stereobelt.

It also came to be termed as the Soundabout, Freestyle and Stowaway.
It was therefore initially known in the US as The Soundabout, while the Australians called it `The Freestyle' and the UK preferred `The Stowaway'.
