Spaulding, Albert C. (Clanton) (1914– ) archaeologist; birthplace unknown. He taught at the University of Michigan (1947–61). His major contribution was to introduce the use of quantitative techniques in archaeology and to develop it as a scientific discipline. His most important publications include works on the archaeology of Native Americans of the Plains and accounts of his investigations in the Aleutian Islands (1962).
