Spence, Michael A. (Andrew) (1943– ) economist; born in Montclair, N.J. He taught at Stanford University (1973–76) and Harvard (1971–73, 1976–90) before returning to Stanford as dean of the business school (1990). His principal contributions include work on the economics of information and in the dynamic aspects of competition.
