Speranskii, Sergei Borisovich 

Born May 10 (23), 1914, in Kazan. Soviet architect. People’s Architect of the USSR (1971). Member of the CPSU since 1957.

In 1941, Speranskii graduated from the Academy of Arts in Leningrad, where he studied under N. A. Trotskii and I. I. Fo-min. He has taught at the academy since 1947. In Leningrad his work (with co-designers) has included the Electrotechnical Institute (1958), residential buildings on Moscow Prospect (1956–61) and Novoizmailovskii Prospect (1964–65), a television center (1962), a scientific research institute of the diesel industry (1963), and the Leningrad Hotel (1970). Speranskii also designed the customs complex at the Soviet-Finnish border (1967).

Speranskii received the State Prize of the USSR in 1973 and has been awarded two orders and several medals.
