A spark gap between two equal-diameter spherical electrodes.

Sphere Gap 

a device for closing or opening an electric circuit. A sphere gap consists of two spherical electrodes separated by a gas-filled insulating interval. Sphere gaps are used as control gaps as well as devices for measuring high impulse voltages; in the latter case, the magnitude of the voltage is computed according to the distance between the spheres when a discharge occurs.
