Sports Committee of Friendly Armies

an international voluntary sports association of athletic organizations from friendly armies of socialist and developing countries. The committee was founded in Moscow in 1958 to strengthen friendly relations between armies and improve the physical training and sports skills of soldiers and officers. It organizes Spartakiads, championships in various sports, educational and training camps, conferences on methods of sports training, and other events. Between 1958 and 1975 there were eight summer and winter Spartakiads and more than 200 championships for Olympic and military-related sports.

The bulletin SKDA: Sportivnoe obozrenie has been published by the committee since 1973. It comes out four times a year in Russian, with annotations in English, Spanish, German, and French. An active part in the committee’s activities is played by army organizations of Bulgaria, Hungary, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the German Democratic Republic, the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea, Cuba, the Mongolian People’s Republic, Poland, Rumania, the Somali Democratic Republic, the USSR, Czechoslovakia, and a few developing countries. The committee’s bureau, its permanent representative organ, is located in Moscow.
