Sports Motorcycle
a motorcycle designed for competition in motorcycle sports. Sports motorcycles are usually based on production road motorcycles but have more powerful engines—often tuned versions of standard engines. Some parts and subassemblies may be suitably modified—frames may be reinforced or single seats installed—and the lighting equipment may be removed, except on motorcycles competing in events lasting several days. Sports motorcycles are used to test new design features that may later be adopted for production motorcycles. Many performance specifications of sports motorcycles exceed those of production motorcycles, including maximum speed and acceleration, but the service life is shorter. REFERENCESBekman, V. V.
