Sprung Knee

a defect in the forelegs of a horse, ass, or mule manifested by a bulge in the carpal joint as a result of a shortening of the flexor tendons.

A distinction is made between congenital sprung knee and sprung knee caused by injury to the flexor tendons and ligaments. A slight congenital protrusion of the knees does not diminish the work capacity of a horse.
