Born Feb. 14 (27), 1902, in Moscow; died there Aug. 8,1973. Soviet scientist in the fields of mechanics and mathematics. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1939).

Sretenskii graduated from Moscow State University in 1923. He was affiliated with the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of Moscow State University from 1923 to 1929, with the Hy-drometeorological Institute from 1930 to 1934, with the Central Aerohydrodynamics Institute from 1931 to 1941, with the Institute of Theoretical Geophysics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1941 to 1945, and with the Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1951 to 1962.
