John the Evangelist

one of the apostles in the New Testament legends, a disciple of Jesus Christ and son of the Galilean fisherman Zebedee.

According to Papias, bishop of Hierapolis (first half of the second century), John the Evangelist was killed sometime between A.D. 60 and 70. According to later Christian tradition he lived until the turn of the second century and died in Ephesus. The Christian church ascribes a number of New Testament writings to him, including the fourth gospel, three epistles, and the Book of Revelation. (They are, in fact, works of various authors.)
