St. Elias
mountains in the cordillera system of North America, in the US (Alaska) and Canada. Length, 350 km; highest peaks, Mt. Logan (6, 050 m) and Mt. St. Elias (5, 488 m). The mountains are composed of granite and sedimentary rocks. Above 500 m are large areas of snow and névé fields, which feed large glaciers reaching to the ocean; a number of small glaciers come together at the foot of the mountains to form vast glaciers, such as Malaspina. Coniferous forests grow on the lower slopes of the mountains. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
