stability criterion [stə′bil·əd·ē krī‚tir·ē·ən]
(control systems)
A condition which is necessary and sufficient for a system to be stable, such as the Nyquist criterion, or the condition that poles of the system's overall transmittance lie in the left half of the complex-frequency plane.
