Stadion, Johann Philipp Von
Born June 18, 1763, in Mainz; died May 15, 1824, in Baden, near Vienna. Austrian statesman. Count. Stadion was ambassador to Russia in 1804 and 1805. He helped form the Third Coalition. On the eve of the signing of the Treaty of Pressburg (1805), he became minister of foreign affairs and actively prepared for a new war against Napoleonic France by, among other measures, reorganizing the army. After Austria’s defeat in the Austrian War of Liberation of 1809, Stadion retired from public life. However, in 1816 he became minister of finance. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
