Stadtman, Earl R.

Stadtman, Earl R. (Reece) (1919–  ) biochemist; born in Carrizozo, N.M. He was a research assistant at the University of California: Berkeley (1943–49), and a fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital (1949–50) before becoming a biochemist and physiologist at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, (Bethesda, Md.) (1950). An authority on enzyme chemistry, he investigated vitamin B₂ function (with wife and collaborator Thressa Stadtman), membrane transport, protein modification in aging, and oxygen toxicity.
