Starshina-Serzhant 

(Master Sergeant and Sergeant; since January 1974, Znamenosets [Standard-bearer]), a monthly illustrated military journal and organ of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR. Starshina-serzhant has been published in Moscow since October 1960 and is intended for soldiers, sailors, sergeants, master sergeants, and warrant officers. The journal deals with the life and service of fighting men in all services of the armed forces, the heroic deeds of servicemen in the battles for the freedom and independence of the motherland, and topics of military training and instruction and the technical training of personnel. It publishes articles about the life and combat training of the troops of fraternal armies, as well as short stories, essays, poems, and descriptive bibliographies.
