Stenobathic Animal

an aquatic animal with a limited vertical range. A stenobathic animal inhabits only one vertical zone of the sea, for example, the littoral, bathyal, or abyssal zone. Eu- rybathic animals, in contrast, are capable of living within a wide range of depths. Being stenobathic limits the possibilities for resettlement; for this reason, stenobathic animals are usually characterized by narrow areas of distribution.
