Stepan Agabekovich Kevorkov

Kevorkov, Stepan Agabekovich 

Born Mar. 19 (Apr. 1), 1903, in Moscow. Soviet film director; People’s Artist of the USSR (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1945.

Kevorkov graduated from the State Technicum of Cinematography in Moscow in 1930. He worked at the Azerkino Studio and acted as assistant director in N. M. Shengelaia’s Twenty-six Commissars (1933). Between 1933 and 1936 he worked at Mosfil’m Studios and, after 1936, at Armenfil’m. Together with director E. A. Karamian, he made the films Mountain March (1939), The Ghosts Are Leaving the Summits (1955), The Path of Thunder (1956), and Explosion After Midnight (1968). Their most renowned films, Personally Known (1958) and Mission Extraordinary (1965), were devoted to the exploits of the outstanding revolutionary Kamo. Between 1956 and 1964, Kevorkov was first secretary of the board of the Union of Cinematographers of Armenia. He has been awarded the State Prize of the Armenian SSR (1967), the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
