Aladzhadzhian, Stepan Egiaevich
Born Jan. 3, 1924, in Aleppo, Syria. Soviet Armenian writer. Aladzhadzhian’s collection of poems Flowers of Sorrow was published in Aleppo in 1942. In 1946 he was repatriated to Soviet Armenia. He graduated from the philology department of the University of Yerevan in 1951 and began writing prose in Soviet Armenia. His novella In the Desert, which was published in 1952, shows the growth of consciousness among the soldiers of the Arab countries and their fight against the British colonialists. His novella Defeat (1956) is dedicated to the same subject. In 1960 he published the novella Phoenix about the repatriation. His novel The Reeds Have Not Bent (books 1–2, 1966–67) describes the struggle of the Armenian people against the Turkish yoke. WORKSIn Russian translation:Ploskie krovli: Romany. Moscow, 1961.
