Stepan Danilov

Danilov, Stepan Nikolaevich 

Born Dec. 26, 1888 (Jan. 7, 1889), in Vitebsk. Soviet organic chemist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1943), Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the Tatar ASSR (1944) and of the RSFSR (1960). Member of the CPSU since 1968.

Danilov graduated from the University of St. Petersburg in 1914 and later taught there. Since 1930 he has been a professor at the Lensovet Leningrad Institute of Technology, working in the field of organic chemistry and the chemical technology of natural and synthetic macromolecular compounds. He has been editor in chief of Zhurnal obshchei khimii (The Journal of General Chemistry) since 1946. Danilov has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and medals.
