Lukomskii, Stepan Vasil’evich
Born in 1701 in Uman’; died circa 1779. Ukrainian noble historian. A member of the Ukrainian cossack starshina (officer class). In 1738, Lukomskii translated the diary of the Polish chronicler S. Okolski about the Polish suppression in 1638 of the peasant and cossack uprising led by D. Guna and J. Ostrianin. In 1770 he translated the Polish historian M. Tytlewski’s, description of the Turkish military campaign against Poland in 1620-21, to which he added material on events in the Ukraine at that time (published in Chronicle of Events in Southwestern Russia in the Seventeenth Century, compiled by S. Velichko, vol. 4, Appendix, 1864). In 1770 he compiled a chronicle of the history of the Ukraine from the 14th to the 16th century entitled the Historical Collection (published in Eyewitness Chronicle, 1878).
