Sterzh Cross

Sterzh Cross 

(in Russian, Sterzhenskii krest), a stone cross 167 cm high, erected by the Novgorod boyar Ivan Pavlovich at the headwaters of the Volga, where it flows into Lake Sterzh. The cross bears the inscription “In the year 6641 [1133 A.D] in the month of July on the 14th day I, Ivanko Pavlovits, began to ply this river and placed this cross.”
