Stewart, river, Canada

Stewart, river, 331 mi (533 km) long, rising in the Mackenzie Mts., central Yukon Territory, Canada, and flowing generally W to the Yukon River S of Dawson. The river is navigable for most of its length and is a transportation route for lead ore from its upper reaches. It was explored (1850) by Robert Campbell of the Hudson's Bay Company.

Stewart, alternate form of the name Stuart Stuart or Stewart, royal family that ruled Scotland and England. The Stuart lineage began in a family of hereditary stewards of Scotland, the earliest of whom was Walter (d. 1177), grandson of a Norman adventurer.
