On the central northern border of TN, west of Clarksville; organized Nov 1, 1803 from Montgomery County. Name Origin: For Duncan Stewart, Revolutionary War veteran and early settler.

Pop 2005: 12,969. State rank: 80. Pop change: 2000-20005 4.80%; 1990-2000 30.50%. Pop 2000: 12,370 (White 94.60%; Black or African American 1.30%; Hispanic or Latino 1.00%; Asian 1.50%; Other 1.90%). Foreign born: 1.70%. Median age: 38.70.
