Stieber, Wilhelm
Born 1818; died 1882. Prussian police official. Stieber was head of the Prussian political police from 1850 to 1860. Using forgery and provocation, he organized the trial of a group of participants in the Silesian weavers’ uprising of 1844, accusing them of forming a “communist conspiracy”; he also organized a trial of members of the Communist League (seeCOLOGNE COMMUNIST TRIAL OF 1852).
