Stillwater.
1 City (1990 pop. 13,822), seat of Washington co., E Minn., on the St. Croix River; inc. 1854. Boats, metal products, signs, computer supplies, molding and tools, and electronic goods are manufactured. A convention there drew up (1848) the petition to Congress for Minnesota's territorial organization. The Minnesota State Prison was established (1851) in Stillwater. 2 City (1990 pop. 36,676), seat of Payne co., N central Okla.; inc. 1899. It is the seat of Oklahoma State Univ., which was established during the first year of settlement and was responsible for the city's growth. Stillwater is also the market and processing center of a wheat and cattle area. Textiles, clothing, transportation equipment, and building materials are manufactured. Gas wells are in the area.
