Stoletov, Vsevolod Nikolaevich 

Born Dec. 20, 1906 (Jan. 2, 1907), in the village of Leonovo, in what is now Vladimir Oblast. Soviet state figure. Doctor of Biological Sciences (1958). Member (1968) and president (1972) of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR. Member of the CPSU since 1940.

In 1931, Stoletov graduated from the K. A. Timiriazev Moscow Agricultural Academy and in 1948 he became the academy’s director. He was appointed deputy minister of agriculture of the USSR in 1950, minister of higher education of the USSR in 1951, deputy minister of culture of the USSR in 1953, and first deputy minister of higher education of the USSR in 1954. He served as minister of higher and specialized secondary education of the RSFSR from 1959 to 1972. Stoletov was a deputy to the sixth, seventh, and eighth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR. He was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU at the Nineteenth Congress of the CPSU.

Stoletov’s main works deal with higher and secondary education, as well as with genetics and selective breeding. Stoletov has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
