Fishing has declined, but the manufacture of precision tools, boats, and textiles remain leading industries. Stonington is also a resort town that includes Mystic (with its seaport museum and aquarium) and several shore resorts. It was attacked by British naval forces in the American Revolution and in the War of 1812.
