Storage Drain
in hydraulic engineering, a pressure de-vice with openings; serves to drain storage reservoirs, flush out bottom sediment, and discharge spent water into an afterbay. Storage drains are usually located in the body of a concrete dam (pipe drains), in earthen and rock dams they are located at the base of the dam or in the bank to bypass it (tunnel drains). To control the amount of water flowing through it, the drain is equipped with gates. During construction of hydraulic-engineering complexes, river water is some-times channeled through the openings of a storage drain. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
