Stratemeyer, George Edward

Stratemeyer, George Edward (1890–1969) aviator; born in Cincinnati, Ohio. The son of an army officer, he graduated from West Point in 1915 and earned his wings two years later. During the interwar period he held staff and operational posts, and in 1943 he became commander of air forces in the India-Burma theater. He later directed air operations in China. He commanded air forces in Korea in 1950 and 1951 before health problems forced him from the service. After retirement he became a supporter of Red-baiting U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy.
