It is eaten fresh and used for soaking, drying, jam making, and wine making. It is a cold-resistant, drought-resistant, and highly productive variety (250–500 kg from a tree). The trees are long-lived (100–120 years). The striped anise is common in the Volga region and the central zone of the European USSR. There are other varieties that differ in ripening time, size, and coloration of the fruit. The most common are the scarlet anise and the rose-striped anise.
