Stromness

   Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Stromness, town, on Mainland island, Orkney Islands, N Scotland. It has a harbor with shipyards and docks. Eggs are exported. In the 18th and 19th cent., Stromness was a whaling center and a port of call for the Hudson's Bay Company. A well-known museum of Orkney antiquities is there.

Stromness, South Georgia Island A former whaling station, Stromness is even more remote, in a sense, than Deception Island.
I'm deeply honoured that the people of Stromness wanted to keep me.
Topsham, Stromness and Lerwick are probably more remote now in 21st century Britain, than when they first greeted mariners and traders from around the world mooring at their doorsteps.
