Stuart, Moses (1780–1852) Protestant clergyman, educator; born in Wilton, Conn. A farmer's son, studious as a child, he graduated from Yale in 1799 at the head of his class. He was pastor of a New Haven Congregational church (1806–10), and from 1810 to 1848 he was professor of sacred literature at Andover Theological Seminary, where he learned Hebrew and published the first Hebrew grammar in America. He also publicized German advances in biblical scholarship. He taught more than 1,500 ministers over his long career. How to thank TFD for its existence?
