Stulov, Ivan Andreevich 

Born Sept. 5 (18), 1904, in the village of Shambava, now in Sokol Raion, Vologda Oblast; died Feb. 15, 1964, in Moscow. One of the organizers of the partisan movement in Byelorussia during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45. Member of the CPSU from 1926.

The son of peasants, Stulov joined the Red Army in 1920 and fought on the Western and Southern fronts. From 1925 he was involved in Komsomol and educational work. In 1931 he graduated from the Irkutsk Finance and Economics Institute. Between 1938 and 1942, Stulov was first secretary of the Vitebsk oblast committee of the Byelorussian CP(B) and of the Nizhnii Ingash raion committee of the ACP(B) of Krasnoiarsk Krai. In March 1942 he became first secretary of the underground Vitebsk oblast committee of the Byelorussian CP(B) and a member of the military council of the Fourth Shock Army. He served on the staff of the Central Committee of the Byelorussian CP(B) from October 1944 and was engaged in soviet and pedagogical activities in Moscow from September 1945.

A deputy to the first convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Stulov was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner, and various medals.
