The external jugular and subclavian veins are both extraneous vessels that develop independently and attach secondarily. Malignancies from the abdomen are also known to ascend to the head and neck via the thoracic duct, which drains at the j unction of the left internal jugular and left subclavian veins. There were three patients (3%) who had attempts performed on both subclavian veins at the same sitting, with successful placement accomplished, and one patient (1%) in whom the attempt to place a line failed. |
