subcutaneous mycosis [‚səb·kyü‚tān·ē·əs mī′kō·səs] (medicine) Any of a wide spectrum of infections caused by a heterogeneous group of fungi characterized by the development of lesions (that usually remain localized or spread slowly by direct extension via the lymphatics) at sites of inoculation and initially involve the deeper layers of the dermis and subcutaneous tissues but eventually extend into the epidermis.
