Šubic
Slovenian painters; brothers. Jurij Šubic. Born Apr. 15,1855, in Poljane; died Sept. 8,1890, in Raschwitz, near Leipzig. From 1873 to 1879, Šubic studied at the Academy of Arts in Vienna. Šubic, whose style evolved from academicism to plein-air painting, executed portraits and intimate genre pictures, such as Before the Hunt (1882, National Gallery, Ljubljana). Janez Šubic. Born Oct. 26, 1850, in Poljane; died Apr. 25, 1889, in Kaiserslautern. A representative of the academic style, Šubic produced altar paintings, murals (in the National Theater in Prague, 1881–83), portraits, and genre compositions. REFERENCEMesesnel, F.
