Suez, Gulf of

a gulf of the Red Sea between the Sinai Peninsula and Africa. The gulf is approximately 325 km long, 15–46 km wide, and up to 80 m deep. Tides are semidiurnal and reach a maximum height of 1.8 m. The Gulf of Suez is joined to the Mediterranean by the Suez Canal. The main port is Suez.
