Suk
(also Pokot, Bawgott), a people inhabiting regions along the upper Turkwel River between Kenya and Uganda. Population in Kenya, 93,000 (1969 census); population in Uganda, 30,000 (estimate). The Marakwet, Endo, and Kadam peoples are related to the Suk. The Suk language belongs to the southeastern group of Nilotic languages. Religious beliefs include ancestor and nature worship; Christianity is also practiced. The chief occupations are terraced farming in the mountainous regions and cattle raising on the plains.
