Sukhinichi
a city and administrative center of Sukhinichi Raion, Kaluga Oblast, RSFSR. Junction of railroad lines to Briansk, Moscow, Roslavl’, Smolensk, and Tula. Located 105 km southwest of Kaluga. Population, 17,000 (1974). Industrial enterprises in Sukhinichi include a plant for the repair of motor vehicles, a brickyard, a vegetable-concentrate plant, a brewery, a factory for the production of plastic goods, a garment factory, and an enterprise for servicing the railroad industry. During the Great Patriotic War (1941–45), the vicinity of Sukhinichi was the scene of fierce combat in January 1942, in the course of the battle of Moscow (1941–42).
