Sulenan Shan
(also Suess Range), a mountain range in China, situated in the central part of the Nan Shan; the name “Suess Range” is sometimes applied only to the eastern part of the Sulenan Shan. The range measures approximately 250 km in length and rises to a maximum elevation of 6,346 m, the highest point in the Nan Shan. The adjacent intermontane plains are situated at elevations of 4,100–4,500 m. The range is composed chiefly of granites and Sinian and Cambrian metamorphic rocks. The lower parts of the slopes are covered with thin herbaceous and shrubby vegetation of wormwoods, grasses, and sedges. At elevations above 5,000 m the slopes are mostly snow-covered; there is much glaciation. Herds of Asiatic wild asses and wild yaks still inhabit the range. Kuku-yamans are encountered in the intermontane plains. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
