Sununu, John H. (Henry) (1939– ) engineer, governor; born in Havana, Cuba. Born during his American parents' business trip, he became an engineer, forming J. H. S. Engineering Co. (1965–82) and teaching at Tufts (1966–82). As governor of New Hampshire (Rep., 1983–89), he opposed taxes, recruited new businesses, and supported the controversial Seabrook nuclear plant. As President Bush's chief of staff (1989–91), he offended many with his brusque manner and became the center of several controversies; he was asked to resign. For a time he appeared as a television news commentator. How to thank TFD for its existence?
