1. John. born 1934, British racing motorcyclist and motor-racing driver. He was motorcycling world champion (1956, 1958--60) and world champion motor-racing driver (1964), the only man to have been world champion in both sports
2. Robert Smith. 1803--64, British journalist and novelist, who satirized the sporting life of the English gentry in such works as Jorrocks's Jaunts and Jollities (1838)
