Sviderskii, Frants Ivanovich
Born Jan. 18, 1877, in the city of Kuków, now in Poland; died May 13, 1939. Participant in the revolutionary movement in Russia and the USA. The son of a worker, Sviderskii joined the revolutionary movement in 1897; in 1899 he became a member of the Social Democracy of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania. A worker himself, he did party work in Warsaw. He was sentenced to death; the sentence was later commuted to an indefinite term at hard labor on Sakhalin. In 1905, Sviderskii fled to the USA, where he joined the Socialist Party, adhering to its left wing. In 1919 he joined the Communist Party of the USA, working as a district organizer in Detroit. In 1921 he left for Soviet Russia, where he was admitted to the RCP(B), with party membership retroactive to 1919. Sviderskii was active in the party and did administrative-economic work.
