Swayze, John Cameron, Sr. (1906– ) television newscaster; born in Wichita, Kans. An editorial staffer with Missouri's Kansas City Journal Post (1930–40), he began broadcasting radio news there. At the National Broadcasting Company in New York he began the Camel News Caravan (1948–56), one of the earliest television news shows. He worked as an announcer, panel show host, and commercial spokesperson afterward, publishing the Art of Living (1979).
