Area high school choruses, barbershop quartets and Sweet Adeline groups will present ``Stars and Stripes Forever'' themed performances this weekend in Ventura and Thousand Oaks. Earlier in the day Sunday they stopped at a police station to serenade a sergeant, then headed to a Newport Beach nursing home where they sang for a woman who turned out to be a former Sweet Adeline herself. In 1996, the Ashkenasys' next-door neighbors, Bob James, a member of the Harmony Oaks Chorus, and his wife, Sharon, a Sweet Adeline, invited the Ashkenasys to a barbershop performance. |
