On the southern border of WY; largest county in WY. Created as Carter County Dec 27, 1867 (prior to statehood) from Laramie County; name changed Dec 13, 1869. Name Origin: For the Sweetwater River, which flows through Fremont County, at that time still a part of Sweetwater County. Originally named for Judge W.A. Carter.

Area (sq mi): 10491.17 (land 10425.30; water 65.87). Pop per sq mi: 3.60.
Pop 2005: 37,975. State rank: 3. Pop change: 2000-20005 1.00%; 1990-2000 -3.10%. Pop 2000: 37,613 (White 86.90%; Black or African American 0.70%; Hispanic or Latino 9.40%; Asian 0.60%; Other 7.00%). Foreign born: 2.70%. Median age: 34.20.
Income 2000: per capita $19,575; median household $46,537; Pop below poverty level: 7.80%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $29,501-$32,941.

    DENVER & PERTH, Australia -- Samson Oil & Gas Limited (AMEX: SSN)(ASX: SSN) announced today that the acquisition of 27 square miles of the Phase 1 (Covering Samson's entire acreage) of a new 3-D seismic survey in Samson's joint federal exploratory unit (the Rubicon Unit) with Devon Energy has been completed in Sweetwater County, Wyoming.
    As previously reported the Exploration Agreement with Devon covers Samson's 6,400 acre holding in the western flank of the Vermillion Basin in Sweetwater County, Wyoming.
