(materials)
The total liquid, multicomponent hydrocarbon mixture resulting from a process involving molecular rearrangement of charge stock, as from oil shale or synthesis gas. Also known as synthetic oil.

This project is to produce up to 450,000 b/d and to have an upgrader for a synthetic crude somewhat similar to the ones being produced in Venezuela and Canada.
PDVSA is offering companies up to 40% stake in each of the three projects, that could each produce around 400,000 barrels per day of tar-like oil and turn it into lighter synthetic crude through special upgrading facilities.
The waterfowl died after being coated in April 2008 with toxic oil residue from an Alberta mine left behind in the ponds by Syncrude Canada Limited, the world's largest producer of synthetic crude oil from oil sands.
