TPS

Also found in: Acronyms, Wikipedia 0.11 sec.

TPS

(1) (Transactions Per Second) The number of transactions processed within one second. TPS is a better rating for the performance of hardware and software than the common MHz and GHz rating of the computer. TPS attempts to simulate the processing of the data, whereas the CPU clock measures only the raw speed pumped into the circuits. See TPM and MHz.

(2) (Transaction Processing System) Originally used as an acronym for such a system, it now refers to the measurement of the system (see definition above).

TPS - Tree Pruning System. "An Adaptive Tree Pruning System: A Language for Programming Heuristic Tree Searches", E.W. Kozdrowicki, Proc ACM 23rd Natl Conf 1968.
