Taisetsu-Zan

(Japanese. Great Snowy Mountain; also called Tokachi). a mountain range in the central part of the island of Hokkaido, in Japan. It is about 100 km in length and reaches an altitude of 2,290 m at the extinct volcano of Asahi. the highest point on the island. The range is made up largely of granite, sandstone, quartzite, and shale. The vegetation on its slopes is of the mountain taiga type. The range is a National Park.
