Takaezu, Toshiko (1929– ) ceramist; born in Pepeekeo, Hawaii. After study under Maija Grotell at Cranbrook, she taught at Cranbrook, other schools, and then at Princeton University (1966). In 1968 she established a studio in Quakertown, N.J. With her biomorphic forms of the 1950s, her explorations of sound by enclosing clay pebbles in pots, and the more recent closed cracked vessels, she drew on Zen ideas and abstract expressionist forms.
